My AdvancedFrame Inflateable kayak was an excellent buy. Have used it dozens of times over the past 2 years and still love it. I recommend to buy the version with the (high pressure) drop-stitch floor for people above 170 pounds, it makes the kayak track a lot better. That floor is also available as a retro-fit and well worth the extra dollars. The effort to paddle is a little higher then with a slim hard-shell kayak, but a difference of 5 to 10% is not relevant for recreational paddlers. I have the kayac in the trunk of my car on most days and sometimes go kayaking after work in Florida. I love how easy it is to set it up and how convenent to transport. For those with a small car, lack of storage space and so on … this is a perfect solution. For more ambitous and experienced folks I recommend the AirFusion EVO from the same brand, it is narrower and glides a little better. Customer service is fantastic and they have helped me when I needed a part for a pump.

I purchased an Advanced Elements, 1 person AdvancedFrame Inflatable Kayak from REI in July, 2019. Since I live in a condo with limited storage space, I needed a reasonably priced kayak that could be stored in a small space, The AE kayak filled the bill. It is well built, with comprehensive instructions and good customer support (I had to call to learn how to screw in one of their valves). I have enjoyed the kayak immensely but offer the following recommendations: 1) follow inflation guidelines to the letter (don’t overinflate); 2) watch where you paddle, as sharp stones and hidden tree branches can–and do–damage the bottom; 3) when finished, drain, clean, and store the kayak appropriately. I would recommend this product.

Yes, I’m happy with my Advanced Elements AdvancedFrame kayak. Easy to inflate with the hand pump, maybe 50 pumps, and worth practicing once indoors beforehand. Behind the seat is enough room for a day pack. I went without the backbone, and was fine on a windy lake day. Never felt in danger of tipping, and stayed dry the whole way, just a few paddle drips as expected. I was able to get in and out, and keep my sneakers dry. The two air chambers are good for safety. I was nervous and brought the pump, but didn’t end up needing it after the initial pumping. With my 6-foot height, I can sit with my legs straight, but I made a minor mistake and stored extra boots, giving me a little less leg room and had to bend my knees, but no complaints. Next time the boots stay home, or maybe use the deck lacing for storage as intended. Keep a towel in your car, and the kayak is easy to dry off at the end of the day. If you do get the backbone, several backbones have models named AE2023, and be sure to get the AE2023-AF1.

Overall I’m very satisfied with the AdvancedFrame Kayak. It’s very self explanatory to setup. Takes roughly ten minutes to both setup and to fold it back up. I kayak in Lake Erie and the Kayak handles very well as the water will get choppy. Very sturdy.
One thing that you will need to get is an Advanced Elements pump which is not explicitly stated. I use the manual pump and it works great.
Would highly recommend to anyone that lives in an apartment/condo that wants to Kayak but doesn’t have the space to store an actual kayak.

If you’re like most people, you are doing your research and looking to see which inflatable kayak is best for you… and your money. That’s exactly what I did. After more YouTube videos than I care to admit, and several reviews online, I decided to go with the Advanced Elements brand. My wife and I have never regretted the decision! They are as perfect for people who do not have the space to store hard shell kayaks, and either do not want to or just do not have the capability of mounting them on the roof for transport.
Thing I love the most – besides how compact that become for storing – is how they float and how they actually conform to the way the water moves. On our first outing with these, we ran an 8 miles section of Texas river that some might say had some Class II+ whitewater. We were also with two other boaters and the one in a hard shell continued to comment on how he wished his kayak would float like ours. Because they rest “in” the water, and less “on” the water, the stability is better. Also, the ride is much more forgiving because the air floor absorbs a degree of the rapids.

I really like this kayak. It tracks and maneuvers well and is very comfortable and stable. It is rigid and sturdy on the outside, and handles similarly to a hardshell in the water, except that you do feel the water movement a little more. I’m not sure how else to explain that, but to me that makes it pretty fun. It’s also more cozy since you’re sitting on a soft surface, and I don’t get the same fatigue in my lower back that I sometimes do with my hardshell. I was worried that would be a problem without any foot bracing, but it hasn’t been so far. It takes me less than 10 minutes to inflate the boat and about the same to get deflated and packed up. It’s a little cumbersome for me to carry in the duffle, but it’s doable for short distances (I’m 5’1). The only downside that I hadn’t thought through is that because the material gets wet, even after towel-drying it, I feel the need to unpack it and let it dry completely when I get home and I don’t have a good spot for that. I’ve figured it out, but it’s an extra step that I don’t love. If I had the space for another hardshell, I would have gone that route, but all in all, I liked it so much, I bought another one so my daughter can join me. They both fit perfectly with all my kayak supplies on one storage shelf (see pic).
