The Advanced Elements Strait Edge 2 Tandem Inflatable Kayak is the first two-person inflatable to incorporate an aluminum bow and stern frame to improve tracking in open water. When the chambers are inflated these frame ribs press against the outer cover and form a high-performance bow and stern.
The hull design is similar to a hardshell sit-on-top kayak. The self-bailing design allows the Strait Edge 2 to shed water while paddling in bigger waves. You can also close the ports in calm or cold water for a drier ride. Three seating positions allow for the kayak to be set up in solo or tandem mode. The breathable foam mesh back supports and padded seats are perfect for all-day paddling comfort.

This boat is super stable and it’s way easier to maneuver than a canoe. We took it down a fast flowing river with a few rapids and it did great!

Very easy to inflate. I did a pratice run before using it on a lake. I was amazed at how easy it handled and how stable it was. I even had my dog in the Kayak. It handled his (35 lbs) movements as if he wasn’t even moving. I have only used sit on top Kayaks in the past, this was far above and beyond them. Easy to carry in the carrying bag and once inflated. This is a great investment for someone that does not have the capability for a full size kayak, it is perfect for my needs.

I have taken the StraitEdge2 out three times now. I continue to be impressed by the basic stability. I have been out in significant ocean swells with winds up to 15 knots with no problem. I have to reiterate that if you are intending doing distance paddling as a solo paddler, you will get there in the end, but it is not a fast craft and you need to plan accordingly. I have paddled this with a passenger, but only with one person paddling; Progress will increase significantly with two paddlers. It would be a light kayak with two person power. Paddling into the wind was not to bad at all, a pleasant surprise. This kayak had no problems holding two passengers, combined weight of 390 lbs; we could have loaded her up with plenty of extra gear with no problem. If you want a very stable, load bearing sit-on-top kayak this is a good choice.
